The purpose of the website is simply to be a vault of sorts for people's recipes, including our own. The original inspiration came when my grandmother lost her recipes book when she moved houses a couple of years ago.

After decades of recording, editing and using these family recipes she now had only her memory to recreated the old family food. I my self thought I was immune because I had mine recorded on the computer, but then I changed computers and the old software had been upgraded with incompatibilities between versions. I also realized that with several computers I would record a recipe on one but not the other, making it a nightmare to keep them in sync.

As going back to pen and paper was not an option for me we set out to find a website to keep the recipes. Most websites are commercially driven and allow you to record recipes only so that they can provide recipes to the visitors to the website. This was not what we were after as my recipes are my business, not just content for someone else to manipulate.

We also found that the registration process on most websites was too particular, there were too many mouse clicks to get the ingredients registered the way the website required. We just wanted a simple 'cut and paste' box to dump our ingredients and instructions into, making it both quick and flexible to use.

In the end we decided to create a website to be exactly what we were after. A personal recipes book to allow us to access our recipes from anywhere and share with others if we so choose. We also realized that having created this website for our selves there was no reason we had to keep it to our selves so we made it available to others to use as well.

We have a personal interest in ensuring that the website is up and running and stays up and running. If the traffic and usage ever gets heavy we may need to stop new registrations or consider using advertising to cover the cost but the website is not a commercial venture.

Over time refinements and new functionality will appear as the site evolves. Particularly we would like to add options for sharing recipes and keep track of what other users are doing, as well as add more platforms such as mobile phones etc. The core values will not change though.
